Born in Emporia, I did most of my growing up in Lyons where I graduated from LHS in 1982. Matriculating to Hutchinson Community College, I earned an Associate of Arts degree in Broadcasting. Completing my college days at Emporia State University, I was involved in a number of activities including Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Union Activities Council and Xi Phi. I graduated with distinction earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Communication in 1988.
My first job after college was working as a roughneck for an independent oil producer. That is where I received a true education about hard work in harsh conditions. I decided that if I was going to work that hard it would be indoors so I moved to Wichita and took a position as a consumer loan officer and insurance agent. Shortly after, I began my career at BANK IV as a credit control supervisor. I navigated several mergers during more than twelve years and left Bank of America as a SVP, Private Client Group shortly after 9/11.
During the first quarter of 2002, I accepted a position with LPL Financial. LPL Financial's business model was drastically different than most. They provided outstanding support, great technology and the freedom to utilize the appropriate investment ideas for my client. I am not burdened with selling the stock of an investment banking client or proprietary mutual fund. At LPL Financial I can sit on the same side of the table as individuals and small business owners to determine goals and develop a course of action to pursue them. LPL Financial provides comprehensive support to assist me and my client in choosing a strategy for whatever we may be solving for at the time.
Giving back to the community has always been important to me. I have been active in many organizations over the years including United Way of the Plains, American Red Cross, Communities in Schools and Emporia State University Foundation Board of Trustees. I continue to support the Kansas Society for Children with Challenges and Compassion International.
Spring of 2017 brought the blessing of being a grandfather to Baby Apollo. The joy he brings is only rivaled by the birth of my two sons, Tyson and Taylor. Tyson and Rachel have chosen to raise their son in Newton. Taylor and Katelyn call Newton home as well. The ladies of our growing family keep us on our best behavior most of the time. When we get together a game of dominos or hearts will inevitably break out. More recently we have discovered disc golf and have had a blast challenging each other. It is my belief that life is way too long and far too short not to have some fun along the way.
I am extremely excited to be part of the Family Wealth Management team, serving clients in Wichita and providing support to Mike.
